Welcome to the official website of the Alseseca Kayak Race, the first extreme-style international kayak race in Mexico! The course covers 2.2k, with about 20 steep rapids and waterfalls, on the Alseseca River near Tlapacoyan, Veracruz, put on for the benefit of clean water and the preservation of rivers in the state of Veracruz and throughout Mexico. The race is presented and organized by generous volunteers from local and international river companies in collaboration with the township of Tlapacoyan. Please see the list of contributors at the bottom of this page.
This year, the first prize award will be a kayak donated by our dear friends Jackson Kayak and Jackson Kayak Mexico
The start of the race is at the Rancho el Siete, along the Altotongo - Tlapacoyan Hywy. After a brief explanation of rules and safety, contestants are timed on the course, taking about 15 - 20 minutes, and finish, usually with many bloopers and surprises, just below an 18 ft high steep slide at the finish.
In previous years contestants have come from Tlapacoyan, Jalcolmulco, San Luis Potosi, Mexico, Texas, Washington, DC, Russia, Canada, France, and Portugal.
The meeting place of the competition is at the Ecological Resort AVENTUREC, where accommodations are provided in cabins, hostal and camping, baths and food services. Recreational services, like rafting, treks, Tyrolean, etc; are also available.
This race aspires to sensitize the inhabitants and visitors of Tlapacoyan, to the importance of being careful with the natural environment and of preserving our water resources. Civil society as a whole, made up of businessmen, government, schools, and other institutions should be keen to guard over the flowing rivers so they will be preserved for the enjoyment of future generations.
